DIAMOND DYNASTY

In the words of Joseph Joestar, the phrase “Oh, my god!” has never hit more close to home than when the news first arrived announcing the airing of the fourth manga arc, third anime season, and latest installment to the JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure franchise by Hirohiko Araki, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Diamond is Unbreakable.

Ever since the debut of the second season, Stardust Crusaders, back in 2014, the series has achieved a revival and growth in its fan base thanks to anime simulcast streaming sites like Crunchyroll who have aired its television anime adaptions as soon as they gained the streaming license for the series. This latest installment is just as fresh and pose-worthy as the others with its funkily designed clothing, unconventionally designed hairstyles, and killer tendencies that leave viewers dying for more.

Unlike the other seasons that take place where traveling around the world is involved, this one is staged entirely in a small Japanese suburban town known as Morioh. The main character and “JoJo” of this season this time around is none other than Josuke Higashikata, a young 16 year old high school freshman who’s just trying to live out the rest of his high school career as any other normal kid would. This, however, doesn’t last long after he meets Jotaro and is told that he’s not only a stand user and his uncle, but that he is also a product of an affair between a now 62 year old Joseph and his mother, Tomoko Higashikata. This fact doesn’t surprise him though, since he has long since accepted the circumstances of his birth.

During their conversation, we become acquainted with Josuke’s obsessive nature with his hair when Jotaro mistakenly insults his chosen style. The two momentarily fight thanks to
Josuke’s rage and we are introduced to Josuke’s Stand, Crazy Diamond, who can not only match Star Platinum in power, but also has the unique ability to put things back together, including people. This ability becomes essential very quickly as Josuke, Jotaro, and his friends Okuyasu and Koichi, begin to investigate the series of mysterious homicides plaguing the town, as well as why a large number of Morioh residents are suddenly developing Stand abilities. This becomes clear during the first half of the season, but new mysteries arise as more questions are answered.

Not one to ever leave out unique characters, Araki adds in the ever flamboyantly haughty Rohan-Sensei, a mangaka who takes “inspiration” from the unlikeliest of sources with his Stand, Heaven’s Door, to the fray. After a series of events, this mangaka also becomes entangled in the secret deaths of Morioh, after both he and Koichi discover a mysterious alley that is not listed on any map. They meet a female ghost and her dog, and she reveals the clue they’ve been looking for.

The story continues to turns into a next-level thriller as Josuke and co. continue to investigate the trail of mysterious killings that all lead back to a blonde homicidal killer who’s only wish is to keep on killing without getting caught, to live a peaceful life, and to have dinner with a ring-adorned hand or two along the way.

More stand users arrive and a particular photograph causes more trouble than ever for our gang as more secrets and truths are revealed with each new stand user. With continued surprises and shocking revelations found around every corner, this season may be the refreshment needed to set apart a new dynasty in the JoJo kingdom from its old vampiric tyranny. This newest addition is just as indestructible as it sounds, and will continue to leave its viewers bedazzled as it continues to spread its beautiful aesthetics and battle cry, “Dora, dora, dora!”, for years to come.
